Extra funding for NP training

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman has announced there will be 20 more Nurse Practitioner training places next year – hailed ‘ground breaking’ by NZRGPN Chair, Sharon Hansen.

The Government has committed to the extra spend of $846,000 for these additional training places.

145 nurse practitioners were registered by the Nursing Council of New Zealand as of the end of March 2015.  NPs are experienced nurses with a clinical Master’s degree who work in a range of settings from hospitals and aged care facilities to general practices.
