Lifestyle attracts doctors

The Marlborough lifestyle may be improving the region's health by helping to attract three new doctors from around the world.

The trio of Dutchman Fons Captijn, English woman Helen Pike and Australian Megan Bailey work at Springlands Health Centre, in Blenheim. All three said Marlborough had proved the perfect fit when they began looking for a fresh start.

Dr Captijn, the newest recruit, joined the centre in August but said his family fell in love with the country while living here about six years ago.

"We came for a job. It was a year and a half, then we went back to Holland but New Zealand kind of grew on us and five years later we decided to leave Holland."
