Queen's Birthday Honours: Dr Ian Smit

Dr Smit, who received the Queens's Service Medal for services to health, said he did not "particularly" do anything that other doctors in the community didn't, and he was part of a team writes Peter Jackson.

A member of the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network, Dr Smit says he’s always been committed to rural health. When Dr Smit finished his medical degree in South Africa, he started to work for local rural health programmes. He then signed on to an eight-year medical assignment catering for isolated populations in Botswana.
