Role
We are seeking a GP to work 7 to 8 sessions per week (negotiable), with on-call 1:5.
We are ideally wanting a male to join our tight knit and supportive team. We are looking for a team player who understands and embraces practice nurses, nurse practitioners, along with all other members of staff, this is an integral part of our successful healthcare delivery.
We offer a remuneration package that will include initial accommodation assistance, a relocation allowance may be negotiated.
Practice
The clinic has a relatively healthy and affluent population. We provide a full range of acute and chronic care services including in-house radiology, giving our GPs interesting and varied days. We aim to have our roster include 3 full time staff (GPs and NPs), so you will not be working in isolation. We recognise the need to balance work and play, so working conditions for all staff are flexible.
Practice hours are 8.30am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. On call duties are shared with another facility, resulting in a 1:5 rota for week days and 1:5 for weekends. After hours phone calls are triaged before the on-call staff member is contacted.
We are a teaching practice with both College registrars and medical and nursing students, adding to the vibrancy and variety our clinic experiences on a day-to-day basis.
Location
Methven is a growing rural and tourist community with a wide range of local outdoor activities including snow sports, fishing and mountain biking. Christchurch airport is one hour away, making it accessible to many other parts of New Zealand and the world.
The Practice has 4500 enrolled patients with each GP seeing 20 – 25 patients per day. The town is a relatively affluent farming community. During the winter months the population grows substantially as ski tourists flock to the town, which is half an hours drive to the Mt Hutt Skifield – Cantebury’s favourite ski field. This means the practice’s patronage increases substantailly during winter months.
The nearest hospital is half an hours drive away in Ashburton. This is a secondary facility with inpatient, day patient, out patient and community-based services. There are maternity, laboratory, radiology and secondary level surgical services, but no emergency department. The nearest tertiary centre is Christchurch Hospital, one and a half hours’ drive away. There is a local volunteer ambulance and there is paramedic support. Helicopter transfers to Christchurch will be used in emergencies.
