A permanent, full time position has become available for an enthusiastic GP who would like to experience the West Coast lifestyle!
This is a unique practice with strong community connections and a loyal patient base. The practice employs one long standing GP and is now looking to recruit a second. As well as this they have an excellent team of experienced nurses whose support allows the GPs to work at the top of their scope.
GPs enjoy excellent collegial relationship with other GPs and specialists, not only in Greymouth but over the entire West Coast.
The clinic has 6 consultation rooms, a treatment room and an occupational health room. The owners are currently working on a purpose built building to be ready by April 2019, which will be a ‘health hub’ for a variety of professionals.
The majority of the patient population are NZ European, aged 45-64, with balance of population on either side of this age bracket. The region has an above average low socio-economic population with high rates of life style disease. Our patient management system is Medtech 32, and we have excellent internet access via the DHB servers.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a very collegial team environment and have a true passion for supporting the health needs of the community. Working hours are flexible so you will have time to see the sights of New Zealand.
The practice is in close proximity to the West Coast DHB Base Hospital and Emergency Department. This means they can quickly refer any very unwell patients directly to ED.
Greymouth is the largest town on the West Coast, with a population of around 15,000. It was built on the mouth of the Grey River and is easily connected to the towns of Hokitika to the south and Westport to the north. The city of Christchurch is a scenic three and a half hour drive to the east. Greymouth is also the turnaround point of the Tranz Alpine train journey, recognised as one of the top train trips in the world.
Greymouth is situated in the ruggedly beautiful Grey Valley, where you will find adventure activities, heritage attractions and nature walks. Cycle the easy West Coast Wilderness Trail or visit Shantytown, a replica 1880’s gold town. If you are more adventurous you will love the quad bike tours, caving and white-water rafting.
The local ‘West Coasters’ are known as friendly and down to earth characters, in many cases as rugged as the landscape that surrounds them! You’ll be sure to find them at any one of the local pubs enjoying a ‘good yarn’ with a glass of locally brewed Monteith’s beer.
