Both practices are owned by a local community trust.
Havelock is a coastal village in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It sits at the head of Pelorus Sound, one of the Marlborough Sounds, and at the mouth of the Pelorus and Kaituna Rivers.
Havelock is the centre for much of the New Zealand green-lipped mussel industry, and is called the greenshell mussel capital of the world. It is also the base of a mail boat servicing the remote communities in the Marlborough Sounds, as well as many fishing and recreational boats.
Today Marlborough is one of the southern hemisphere’s most important wine growing regions, however traditional pastoral farming still continues, albeit on a much reduced scale. Tourism has become an increasing focus in the region and the natural beauty of the Marlborough Sounds provides an ideal environment for outdoor pursuits and eco-tourism.
One of the sunniest towns in New Zealand, Blenheim is Marlborough’s capital. The early appearance of the town is recreated at Brayshaw Museum Park, which is also home to the unique Vintage Car and Farm Machinery Museums, and the Provincial Museum and Archives. Blenheim has two art galleries, three-theatre cinema complex, live theatre venues, and an undercover sporting complex with a heated swimming pool. There is a golf course within the town, and a race course.
