Location
Taihape, like its gumboot icon, is a humble and hard-working community. The district’s population is 5500 and the town has all the amenities you’ll need. Nothing influences the region more than its namesake, the Rangitikei River and its deep river gorges. Beautiful, remote and yet accessible, it provides the backdrop for many attractions including white water rafting, trout fishing and kayaking. This area will suit a GP who loves the outdoors as it’s near three national parks. The ski fields of Mt Ruapehu are only an hour away, as is the famous Lake Taupo where you can unwind in the natural hot springs. The nearest main cities are Palmerston North and Wanganui, both within 75 minutes’ drive.
