Roxburgh, Otago - view map
Start date: As soon as possible
- Part-time permanent role
- 2 bedroom apartment available
- Beautiful South Island location
A permanent part-time General Practitioner position has become available with this friendly and experienced team. The role is 3 or 4 days per week. There is an option to cover one night per week on-call, but this is negotiable.
If you have a good sense of humour, enjoy dealing with elderly patients and have good time management skills then this is the perfect role for you!
A 2 bedroom apartment is available but will need to be vacated in the weekends for on-call staff.
The practice is owned and managed by a community trust, situated in what was previously the local hospital. There are spacious premises, which were extensively renovated in the late 1990s, include a large waiting room, three consulting rooms, and an ambulance room. In addition to the General Practitioner, there are 1.5 practice nurses and two administration support staff and the Practice Manager who assist with the day-to-day administration of the practice and community services.
The practice has approximately 1400 patients, with 20 patients seen each day on average. Surgery hours are 9am – 5pm weekdays. An on-call nursing team covers the weekends and has telephone backup.
This town is situated in Otago and has a population of around 600 in the town but also services the surrounding rural area. There are orchards, sheep and beef farms that surround this rural region. It is a great place to raise a family in a safe and peaceful environment.
Otago has warm summers and cold winters. It is a land of extremes being the coldest and driest part of New Zealand. The seasons are sharply defined: summers are typified by long days (daylight lasts until 10pm) that are hot and low in humidity; autumn sees cooler evenings with hot and calm days shortening as we head into winter; winter mornings are often misty, the days cloudless and windless and the nights freezing; while spring sees a return to warmer weather with typical equinox winds.
Popular tourist towns such as Queenstown and Wanaka are only 90 minutes away, where you can ski, jet-boat and indulge in other outdoor pursuits. Dunedin and Invercargill are within driving distance as well.
