Start date: 18 January 2021
- Permanent Part-time role
- Great team environment
- Beautiful, warm region
We are looking for a General Practitioner to work 2 days a week, you would be a third doctor in the practice but would work solo on these days. So you will need to be comfortable working alone, however, you will work with an excellent team of nurses and practice manager who provide support.
This part-time role is working with an excellent team in a beautiful part of New Zealand. There are lots of opportunities for outdoor activities, beaches, walking, diving, fishing and one of the best places in the world to sail!
Both of our nurses are very experienced. Our surgery is very well-equipped to deal with minor accidents and also for minor surgery. We have a new diathermy machine, ear microscope, and slit lamp along with all of the standard equipment.
The practice is located in the heart of the village centre and has a friendly close-knit community with a bit of an island feel. A local ferry operates between Paihia and Russell.
Known as ‘the winterless North’ for its subtropical climate, Northland’s expanses of white sandy beaches, great fishing and scenic locations such as the spectacular Bay of Islands all combine to make it a popular place to live.
Northland is particularly rich in Māori tradition, having welcomed the canoes of the first explorer Kupe around 800 years ago. Today, around a quarter of Whangarei’s population identify themselves as Māori.
The warm climate and safe harbours also drew the first European settlers, and Paihia, an hour north of Whangarei, was New Zealand’s first seat of Government. New Zealand’s founding document, Te Tiriti (The Treaty of Waitangi) was signed just outside Paihia in 1840.
