Wairoa lies in the Hawke’s Bay where the Wairoa River meets the Pacific Ocean. It’s in a great location for outdoor pursuits including hunting, hiking, surfing and fishing as it is surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful beaches. It’s also in close proximity to Te Urewera National Park and Lake Waikaremoana. Just an hour’s drive away is the Art Deco city of Napier, where palm trees line the streets and where some of the oldest wineries in the country are located. Similarly, an hour’s trip north you will find the city of Gisborne with pristine and safe swimming beaches. There is lots to enjoy whether it’s white water rafting, canoeing or wilderness experiences!
Wairoa has one mainstream secondary school, Wairoa College. This offers learning opportunities to those students between the years of 7 – 13. There are also many Primary schools that offer education to students in years 1 – 6.
