We are seeking an enthusiastic General Practitioner to join this friendly and supportive practice. This long term or permanent position consists of 9 sessions per week with some on-call required, as well as overseeing patients in the small rural hospital.
We are looking for a GP who is kind, calm, and with a good sense of humour. If you are confident, have good time management skills, and great communication skills especially with vulnerable high needs population group then this is the right position for you!
You will be well supported with the practice nurses and administrative staff working alongside you, to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
This practice has five consulting rooms and one treatment room. It is located in an extension of the Wairoa Hospital which was built in 2013. The staff are friendly and have been with the practice long-term.
This Cornerstone accredited practice has around 1340 patients. The demographic of patients is 57% Maori, 40% younger than 30 years old and 20% aged 65 years and older. The practice is focussed on making a difference in a low socio-economic area of need environment.
Located in the Hawke’s Bay, where the Wairoa River meets the Pacific Ocean, Wairoa is a small but well-resourced town. From the latest census the population has been counted as 4,500, with a further 4,000 in the surrounding district. The region has a special and diverse beauty and is the access way to the popular beaches of Mahia Peninsula, as well as the wilderness area of Te Urewera National Park. A community recreation centre includes a heated 25 metre indoor swimming pool, large gymnasium, weight room, and modern high ropes course. The Gaiety Theatre boasts one of the largest screens in New Zealand, showing recent release films, as well as hosting visiting performers/events. The Morere hot springs are only a 40 minute drive away. And Rocket Lab is now conducting commercial launches from the far end of the Mahia Peninsula.
The practice itself is only a 2 minute drive to the Wairoa township. It is located in close proximity to the only secondary school, Wairoa College, four primary schools and several play centres and childcare facilities.
