We have a small practice across the harbour from Wellington, a 20 minute ferry ride requiring a permanent General Practitioner (Family Medicine physician). The role has 8 sessions (4 days) per week with minimal Afterhours Emergency Clinic in Lower Hutt rostered on a weekend and weeknight each per month.
Our GPs see around 12 patients for each session (mornings 8:30am to 12pm) and (afternoon 1:30pm to 5pm).
This privately-owned practice, with two practice partners was established in 1999 in a house that is now converted to a medical centre. The centre is located at the top end of the shopping village, with a pharmacy, physiotherapist and Plunket Nurse offices nearby.
We currently have 5 GPs, one locum GP, 3 nurses and 2.5 administration staff, and a Health Care Assistant. We appointed a Practice Manager in 2018.
Our current enrolled population is 3629, of that 1716 are aged over 45 years. The patient demographic is 89% European, 4% Maori, 3% Asian and 4% other.
Wellington is New Zealand’s capital city; and with excellent cafes, restaurants, wine and craft beer, and a range of events, it is also known as New Zealand’s ‘Capital of Culture’. The city is home to many museums, theatres and arts festivals, including Te Papa Tongarewa (the Museum of New Zealand), the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and the biennial Festival of the Arts.
Wellington is New Zealand’s centre of government, and third most populous urban area. It is also a leading centre for creative industries, such as film and computer technology.
The city is situated alongside Wellington Harbour and surrounded by native forest. For outdoor enthusiasts there are a range of opportunities including Zealandia, the beautiful Kapiti Coast, the Wairarapa wine region and Rimutaka Forest Park. Eastbourne is a seaside suburb surrounded by bush, a great place to raise a family with local schools and preschools on the doorstep.
