We are seeking an experienced GP to join this small, friendly practice located near Whakatane in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. This position is ideal for someone who would like to enjoy a collaborative and supportive working environment while making the most of their spare time enjoying the beautiful Bay of Plenty.
The practice employs three GPs, two of whom are senior GPs and can offer excellent support to a doctor joining the practice. The practice is open 6.30am -4.00pn and the GPs work in shifts of either 6.30-12.00pm or 8-4.00pm. The clinic has five consulting rooms, a laboratory, nurses station, practice manager’s office and a large staff room.
The practice has around 5200 registered patients, a high proportion of whom are Maori, with 54% very low income. They are seeking an enthusiastic, efficient and competent GP to join their team.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a relaxed yet busy atmosphere! An interest in working with a low-socio-economic demographic and a desire to make a difference to a small community are also ideal qualities.
The base hospital (Whakatane Hospital) is only 19km away, and provides a good range of core health services. Whakatane Hospital provides 24-Hour acute and elective capability in emergency, surgical, maternity and child health, medical, and mental health services.
This clinic is situated around 15 minutes’ drive from the city of Whakatane, in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty. The Rangataiki River runs alongside the town, and it is also within easy driving distance of the coast and fresh water lakes.
The Bay of Plenty offers a range of outdoor pursuits such as fishing, hunting, surfing and swimming at Ohope Beach, voted NZ’s favourite beach! For those that enjoy the urban lifestyle, you will have the option of living in Whakatane, and some of the practice staff have recently moved to lifestyle blocks.
The area is known for its fresh air, beautiful beaches, great bush walks and unspoilt New Zealand landscape. The town enjoys a warm and temperate climate all year round, with summer temperatures 24-27degrees C, and winter 10-17 degrees C.
There are excellent schooling options in the area, from preschool through to high school.
